We would like to support the effort to build a comprehensive clone library of modular peptide recognition protein domains and the peptides that bind to them. These represent the building blocks of many eukaryotic signaling pathways.
Clone Sources
The protein structure initiative has announced a 'materials repository'. Structural genomics projects study individual domains, but often don't consider ligands.
- ORFeome
- Private clone libraries of domains
Bioinformatics wishlist
Web site listing all available clones. This could be in collaboration with an existing website, like the open wetware project
- Target selection for creating new clones (while reducing duplication of effort)
- List of standard methods for cloning or creating new sequences (like DNA synthesis) and their cost. This supports creating a standard library.
- List of standard methods for experimental determination of bound peptides or other molecules.
- Literature library (wiki style)
Wiki for writing an open source book chapter on each domain. This could be in collaboration with an existing website, like the Pawson lab domain collection
